Feedburner burn your blog

Feedburner is yet another Google service. The significance of feedburner to me is statistics. I can't properly explain all the features untill we do them so lets get right down to burning your feed.

Now the Google purchased the feedburner company just recently so you need to register still. I am sure in the coming months this will change. Its and easy step so lets start.

Burn your feed enter your blogs url here this the address you access your blog. Ours is ronpare.blogspot.com press next leaving podcast not checked.

We use the Atom feed only because it is first if you want to use the other setting go right ahead i don't believe it will make it any more difficult.

This window you enter feedburners account details

It is this next window that you get the information you need to enter into Blogger's Feed entry. This is the picture at the end of the Create a Blog article.

Next screen shows a hint of the options Feedburner provides. Check the 1st and 3rd boxes. these are the Clickthrough and I want more. Don't worry the PRO options is free, remember this is Google.

There we go all finished now you can Click through all the options of your feed or go direct to blogger and direct the blogs feed to your account. This could be the most complicated step. In Bloggers Feed box you enter the http://feeds.feedburner.com/YourBlogNamehere address you created in the steps above.

When you start looking through the tabs you'll soon see that they have started finding stats for you but you don't have any. Be patient In a few hours it will start up. It take a good amount of time so go and play with your blog for a while.

Next Article will assist you with the settings and code involved with optimizing your site with Feedburner.

Create a Blog with Blogger

Creating a blog is a great way to run your own special experiance online. Giving the oportunity for people to follow your progress from easy to set up RSS feeds to just a daily or weekly visit of your activities.

Google's Blogger makes it very simple to decide which blog system is best for entry level users and pro alike. Blogger is a Free application the takes care of all aspects of blogging, including upgrading to a hosted solution.
The ability switch at no cost, hosting always costs i am saying blogger doesn't charge you to change hosting arrangements.

Finally with Google Feedburner service your blog functionality goes further with detailed easy to use web statistics find out who is visiting your blog, how popular it is who's promoting you.

Those of you that did the Gmail how-to have the a login for blogger already use your gmail login to begin. Like most all Google applications the login is the same and this is a huge reason i say Google is king in web applications.

So in the same fashion of the Gmail How-to i'm not going to state all the steps just all the ones that count. If you find you are stuck look at the pictures i provide most have my entries in them.

Step one - Goto Blogger.com or click this link

If you are still logged in to your new Gmail account this step is nothing more then adding your Screen name. Those who don't have a Gmail account please follow the direction required.

Hit the Create a Blog Now button

Blog title: Our blogs title is entered as "Scratchbuilders Guild"

Blog address (url): your unique blogger spot this can be changed later if you wish to use a different host. For the purposes of our article we will just note this will be updated at a later date.

Make sure you press the "check availability" button the name could be difficult to think of. My advice is to not worry about a good name, you can get a very cheap domain name and use that as an option. I used my name cause i couldn't think of anything else.

Continuing on to the next page we find the template selection phase. Again you can change this template later very easily.

That all folks your first blog is ready go ahead introduce yourself to the world. A few quick notes about Bloggers posting options i find convenient.

  • Adding pictures is very nice, Blogger resizes for you.
  • Much like posting in a forum just as easy
Publish your post.

Explore your blogs settings making it your own. These settings can always be change they give you all the functionality you need plus more.

One setting we want to point out is Feedburner found under the Site Feed tab. Continue on to the next article to see how to install all these very cool features to your blog.

Feedburner get site statistics

Get Gmail for the fully functioning online experiance.

Yup Get Gmail is the title, to fully be able to access all the functions of your blog using Gmail is an obvious choice. It really make it easy to move or add an additional easy to use email address.

Archive, don't delete

  • With more than 2,500 megabytes of free storage, you never need to delete another email.
  • Just archive everything and use Gmail's search to find what you need.
Don't loose your old email
  • Send your current email to gmail
  • send gmail to your current email
  • out of the box spam protection
  • never loose your mail again
Ok the merits of Gmail are done and now that i look i work for the darn company it is time for me to say i don't i am just like you a frugal railroader.

I'm not going to do a precise step by step as you can figure most of it out. Take a look at the pictures for some of my entries if you have trouble.
First step to getting Gmail is to press this link

Put in Desired Login Name: Put in your email address you want this is the first part in the email address followed by @gmail.com. Make sure you press the checkavailability button. Availability is probably the most painfull part of this email thing. i used 2 words with a '.' (dot) between them usually you can get your preference that way.

secondary email - your current email address

One step process easy as that. If you need to confirm in your email go ahead now and do that. This step was not required for me as my secondary email was already a gmail address.

You should be in Gmail right now, look around. Like all Google products it is real slick like.

2 things i want to point out is the top tool bar and the Help button specifically. Google is VERY GOOD at documenting its work. So go ahead and see what you can do with Gmail

Create a blog for your railroad

Today
getting online is easy, for finding information the web has become the experienced LHS for most of us, to find out all we need to know for model railroading. Today i wanted to take it one step further to using the web for all its got.

Google is a common word these days, the term googling is synonymis with searching all your favorite subjects. But did you know Google provides allot more then just search. Well they do many services including Blogs, Email, Groups, Webpages and on and on we could go. Most all are free.

Today i want to focus on two pieces of the google puzzle, Email and Blogging. Why both and not just blogging. First Email is a source of communication and google really made email easy with their features. 2nd is one email from google gives you seamless access to ALL google products. Also you can both direct your old email send to gmail or gmail to your email, so what could it hurt?
