In this 3rd part of the Farmer's market build we build a removable roof, Finish off the 2nd floor and further prepare the Diorama.
First job to tacle is to add a thin layer of cereal board to the back of the roof, this adds strength for handling the roof. We also cut holes in the front roof panel to allow the LED's to shine through the windows. Last we added some backing to the roof panels (this can be scrap piece of wood).

We started the cedar shakes wow what a sweet process just when you think "dang I screwed the paint up" you start to see the beauty of these put together. We held off on the 3rd coat of black suggested in the instructions, opting to wait till the shakes were laid so we could better recreate the water stains described.

This kit by far is a great little build. All the steps to the finished product don't hold back. Each step uses the best materials for the job. I am specifically talking about the shakes, tin (after etching) and finally down to the fence jig burned into the back of the cigar box the model arrived in. This is a truley great build and I have thank Joe again next time we talk.

Last we will update the diorama (update Sunday)

Farmer's market build pt 3
Trackside Milk Shed build
Best Trains runs a tight ship, this is obvious the second you open one of their craftsman kits. Documentation is in abundance in this kit and includes a catalog, something i think allot companies could learn from.
Working on Laser-cut wood kits is a delicate task. Follow the instructions and we know you will do fine on this one. Again if you do run into trouble we have you covered, just follow the build.
Best Trains, It's not just a model, It's a piece of history.

This was the phone call that started it all. We are building not one but two BEST kits (Bollinger Edgerly Scale Trains). This is outstanding we really apreciate the support. The guys at the club are going to be blown away when i bring these to the next meeting.
First kit is Ogden's Bookstore, this downtown structure looks great and is sure to fit in cities & small towns. This kit could fit many era choices. Watch as another Laser-cut wood kit takes shape into a masterpiece.
Next on the bench is Lisbon Milk Shed/Express Freight Office, this trackside business adds life to your layout, just where you need it. Adding milk to your operations is also a great way to improve your layout experience.
With these laser-cut wood kits a scene awaits in every box, but thats not their tag line its mine.

Hamlet Build, Frenchman River kit

Frenchman River Model Works
Hamlet Build
(This is a new build thread and will take shape over the next week)
Frenchman River kits are going to make a name for themselves at the Guild as the quickest models to complete. One look in the box and your asking yourself am i missing something ?
Well Sir these kits aren't missing a thing. Nail holes, Roofing, Sidewalks, outhouse, Brickwork, additions and texturing its all in the box there. This build is all about the paints and weathering, and thats sending us to the paint board to test some colors.
First step as with all plastic and resin models is a thorough cleaning.

Ayes the by that builds the boats...

Frenchman River
Model worksAs this East Coast song goes Ayes the by that builds the boats, Ayes the by that models them. Well we are going to build one of Frenchman River Model Works tug boats, and this isn't being taken lightly. We are sending this to our author on the East coast Scott Jay to build this one.
No thats not all folks we have Hamlet Bank model as well and the wife and I are going to spend some quality time on what is sure to be an intense build.
I sure hope she don't read this stuff.
Check out their website these kits look to be as easy as it gets. Just paint and go. I am sure we will be able to get these looking top notch.

Colomns and Blogs
This week we have a few blogs we liked. I may update this post in the morning with news, maybe making this a Wednesday thing.
First we have 2 new blogs Amoskeag Northern Railroad is the first.
I see there is some rolling stock on Ian's bench.
Next is Model railroading and railroad photography blog
We have some plaster work pop outs and scenery happening on his layout.
Passing loop has a scratchbuild on the bench Donald has started a great build of model made with Modelbuilder software
The Bayside and Tidwater has operations trouble, certainly an entertaining read for those who wish to get into operating sessions.
And finally Dogcaught has some real interesting bits on a Vancouver Land Bridge over a train route.
Tamiya, model detailing just got easier
We received another package today. It is a spray stand for painting and weathering rolling stock and small items. We are happy to add this very usefull tool to our builds. It will surely take front stage more then a few times here at the Guild.
We also received another kit from Tamiya as well we have yet to unveil it. Safe to say your kids are going to love it, it'll keep them off the layout too.

New domain name issues...
Ok guys I see we have 5 subscribers and this a great thing. However you must subscribe once more to fix to the new address. This is a problem we knew would happen but now that is done we can move on.As always there will never be a registration for anyone there isn't a need for one. This makes it real easy for us to allow comments and who needs another site with your information. I sure don't need it so whats the point.
We have added a new build thread located here we will do a review shortly after the build is done.
